La Pana Bakery
Mobile app for local bakery.
Background
Due to infrastructure restrictions around the market, customers of the La Pana Bakery y Cafe wish to have an app for ordering that allows users to place orders for a specific pick-up time.
As La Pana Bakery y Cafe is an existing restaurant, I wanted to keep my designs closely aligned with the restaurant’s existing brand standards.
Through user research, I decided I wanted clear imagery of the products offered as not every user is familiar with common Mexican coffee and pastries.
Those ordering have busy schedules and want to be able to pick up their orders at specific times.
I worked on this project from July to October 2023 and revised it in May of 2024.
Sketches and Low Fidelity Prototypes
I started with some paper sketches of the homepage. In the research phase, I noted that many apps have complicated and messy screens for the menu. I aimed to clearly separate the two main categories of the menu, food and drink. The low fidelity prototype connected a user’s journey to ordering a drink so that the prototype could be tested.
User Testing
Through usability testing, I gained valuable insight into key changes I needed to make around the tipping process and item customization. Most importantly, I realized that I needed to make the scheduling process easier. I moved the date and time picker to the front of the flow as a first step to complete before getting into menu options.
Revisions
As mentioned above, I made this project adhering to La Pana’s current branding as closely as possible. Upon revising this project I decided to edit these designs to move away from such a strict following of their color palette. In particular, I decided to not use so much brown, and emphasize a richer shade of pink. I generated a new color palate in Material Design. The below images represent before and afters of my first version of this project, and a more recent set of revisions.
